Today was a glorious work day. It's the type of day we dream of on the Hem/Onc floor. No major emergencies, no one going down the tubes, no real urgent issues, just a quiet Sunday--a rare day indeed.
I organized ordering lunch which was a real treat. I usually don't even have time to use the restroom so to be able to coordinate gathering monies and hungry participants is quite a joy. We ordered Chipotle. It was delicious! Super delicious.
I had one of my favorite patients that makes me feel like work is a little home away from home, he's my 3 1/2 year old buddy who has been through the ringer and back and keeps on truck'n! He is going to be leaving our floor soon and heading on home (hopefully), though I'm sure we'll see him again. He's been with us for nearly 8 months. I took a picture of him today on my cell phone which I'm sure is completely against HIPPA, but I don't plan on sharing it and I need it because he is my buddy. His family is not very involved with him so he has sort of become a part of our work 'family'.
At work I was thinking that I really ought to find myself a fantastic hobby. I keep saying that and have been searching for one for years. Nothing has stuck so far. First there was knitting. I have many started, uneven, rather unappealing scarves--all with the knitting needles still connected to them. I just buy new ones when I picked the hobby back up as I don't know how to get them back on the needles without unraveling the whole project.
I have a wonderfully effective pilates DVD that I thought might revolutionize my bod and my life...that was 4 years ago and I might have used it thrice times and there has been no revolutionizing anything.
I have a wonderful collection of various 'crafty' type things in which to create--unfortunately I found creating patiently isn't really my thing either.
I have a sewing machine (gift from my mother-in-law). I do love my sewing machine. I'm proud to own one and frequently admire it when I see it. I have four pillows that I enjoy, and Alex enjoys a pillow courtesy of the sewing maching...I have drawers full of lists and fabric and ideas just waiting to be sewn with vigor. Someday.
I have books the train me to be a better writer as I enjoy creative writing from time to time. Just haven't found the time (motivation) to read them yet...and, well, finding time to sit down and write seems daunting, intimidating, overwhelming and so I don't.
Will I ever find a hobby? Perhaps my hobby is finding new hobbies and trying them on for size? Maybe the perfect one still awaits me? I guess I could count eating ice cream my hobby? And shopping...does that count? Hmmmm....
I'm open to suggestions.

don;t miss the new post below this one :)
Is exercising a hobby? Lets see.....my sweet pet needs a hobby. Hmmm....you could do LARP (Live Action Role Play), collecting little glass cats, collecting candy wrappers(a personal favorite of mine as a kid), watching all the movies on the AFI list, creating your own top 100 movie list and putting it in alphabetical order (yes, I did this...sigh), caring for small animals (mice, guinea pigs, a ferret), get the Weird Indiana book and visit everything in it)...maybe I will come up with more later.;) You know you can't wait.
Heart breaking about the little boy you work with. So glad he is almost going home but not having a family very involved. I can't fathom it. Breaks my heart.
exercising COULD be considered a hobby at least for some people? unfortunately i don't seem to be one of them! bummer. owell. i'm over it. collecting candy wrappers...i might be good at that, maybe not enough challenge there....i like the glass cat idea, too. Thanks for the suggestions.
Glass cats? That is hilarious! Let me know if you decide to go with that one, I found a store in town that is exclusively devoted to all things cat. Don't ask how I found it, a few doors down there is one for dogs too. I don't have any real suggestions, I struggle with this at times too. I'm on a photography kick right now and am so very tempted to spend way too much money on a camera. I even consulted with Marla about brands. I want something to do that will fill my time out here, but then I start to wonder if it is just a phase? Who knows? Wow, I'm no help at all! Sorry:)
you excersize alot and do yoga. those are hobbies.
i want more REAL hobbies though. and for the record, i told fooie to post that so everyone would know that i work out ALL the time! It's my full time job, really--working out. well, open to more suggestions---gotta go work out! i'll post when i'm done with my workouts today--i love them so much i might not ever be finished until bedtime. oh, i forgot, sleeping is a nice hobbie i enjoy...unfortunately having alex doesn't really allow for this one much anymore. kell, i like the photography idea. i thought aboutthat for awhile, but couldn't afford the really nice camera so went for a little nice camera! ha!
How about cooking as a hobby? You could try new recipes or even exotic dishes?!?! That's always fun. As for the little boy. My heart aches! How is his family not involved? I'm glad your his buddy.
... See I'm writing. I'm sorry I've been neglecting you. It won't happen again. From now one, for every comment I post on either the three, Girls, Millers or yours I will post on all! Is that fair? :)
Alright. I can't say I know much about this, but Gabe's cousin and her little boy did something this summer called "letterboxing"--have you ever heard of it? From what I understand, it's a type of scavenger hunt with clues throughout your town/city. You can find them online I think if you google letterboxing and maybe the name of your town? It looked like fun for her and her little boy together, they kind of started getting into it. I've read about it a couple other times since then.
Another suggestion off the top of my head, catalog your families' (yours and Tim's) family trees. I always think that would be a cool thing to give my kids someday. And you're artsy, you could design a great tree I'm sure.
I like the family tree idea! Kyle and I are really into gardening. We grow our own vegies and make fresh salsa! In the winter its a little hard obviously... but this past winter we enjoyed our salsa we had frozen!
LOL. How did my friends get so domesticated? Remember when we used to lie around the apartment and do nothing after classes? Oh how I sometimes wish we could still do that! Jacque, I'm so jealous you guys are gardening. I have yard to do it! I really want an herb garden.
I meant to type in "NO" yard to garden with!
i'm so glad i got all these posts! thank you jenny for finally posting! that makes my heart so happy :)
i will try all of these hobbies. tim and i do the homemade salsa thing but not with homegrown unfortanately. and, jenny, you will have your own garden soon with your lover man :) i want china babies and i want them now!!!!
i like the kind of hobbies that fill my belly with tasty treats.
cooking should be your new hobby
You should scrapbook. I am not gay.
thanks for all the great ideas friends! i had no idea you all cared so much that i might find a wonderful new hobby. i will try all of the mentioned! except scrapbooking...i blog instead. i have about 3 or 4 started scrap books but enver finished them. great idea, though! thanks bleach!
i do enjoy cooking...i will do more of that. gardening has always been something i think i would love, except that you have to water the plants...i often forget that very important part and expect nature to care for it with rain.
