Samuel Paul Receveur

Sam was born 10/23/09 at 10:53 a.m. Everything went pretty smoothly and I was ever so grateful for my epidural at 7 a.m. We had anticipated waiting for Sam until the late afternoon but he decided he'd finally had enough and came on his own time without any help to speed the labor along. I only stayed at the hospital 24 hours as I could not sleep there and with everything looking ok, they agreed to let me go a day early.

What I've learned so far:
1.) If you say anything along the lines of, "He's a great sleeper at night!" or "He's really never fussy" you are bound to experience the exact opposite within a few hours
2.)He's better than fruit snacks (according to Alex, as is being a big sister)
3.)Alex is a wonderful big sister already! She takes her job very seriously and is full of great questions such as: regarding breastfeeding--> "When does he get to eat something good?!" "who is inside there making the milk?"
4.) 3 1/2 year olds do not know the meaning of 'gentle'
5.) Moms are a GOD SEND after having a baby and energetic toddler (thanks, mom! for the dinners and the laundry doing, and the cleaning, and the cookie bars, and the entertaining Alex, and the cleaning, and the CLEANING, and the LAUNDRY, and the nurturing, and the fun, and the yummy leftover foods, and the wine, and the groceries!!!! and everything else!~!!!!! We will miss you very much, in fact, we already do!)
6.) Sam is the cutest little peanut ever (tied with Alex, of course...and with all my friends and family's babes)
7.) having a second babe, I'm much more relaxed but MUCH more tired!
8.) Life doesn't get much sweeter than this
9.) Breastfeeding is a full time job in the beginning! (but so worth it!)
10.) I've fallen in love with a little tiny 6.5 lb stinker named Sam
oh, and and naptimes are not to be wasted!

I'll post more pics later...tried doing several more but they were sideways so I have to fix them. This computer takes forever so this is all for today!

Yayyyy! Ellis and I have been in Florida and didn't use the computer, but I was thinking about you!!! Sam is breath-taking and the picture of the two of them together is so very very sweet. Babies are better than fruit snacks, I agree with your smart girl. Congratulations, and good job! Enjoy that teeny tiny baby :)

Yay, so glad you posted, congratulations again! He is adorable and looks like a miniature, skinny little Alex. I love the picture of Alex reading to him, that is so sweet.

My nephew is just adorable! I hope you are doing well. tonight I am starting a crocheting class with my friend. I know it will be rather tricky with one hand, but I will figure out a way. I need a hobby. My life is pretty lonely and boring right now. Maybe I;m going through a midlife crisis or menopause or something. Love ya,

Marie

I have been waiting to see the pictures of your new addition... love the pix of Alex reading and toe bouncing little Sam... way too precious... A friend of mine recently updated her yahoo group post with the post that follows... I share it with you because I think it gives perspective to this time of your life and feed your soul. (p.s. She has 13 children under age 13 and is prego with #14 (7th biological 7 Liberian African adoptions...)

"The baby in the poop pile"

I always get a little revelation when I listen to my kids pray before bed:

Dominic, "Thank you God for making the whole entire world. That was amazing. But thank you the most for making play dough. You are awesome God."

Sofia, "Thank you for God for making Daddy and Mommy to get married so they can kiss on the lips."

Blessing, "God I love you because you make babies!"

Alicia, "God I pray for the people of Liberia that everyone would come to know you and you would feed them food and Jesus. Thank you for our family."

Zemira, "Thank you Jesus for the leaves falling down because then comes snow and Christmas!"

In everything give thanks. That's what I am reminded of when I hear my children pray. I look at the ground up leaves stuck in between my girls' cornrows and I am tempted to think….more work. I see the play dough under the kids nails and can think again…….more work. I can look at my kitchen after another meal and see only the mess to be cleaned instead of the provision to be thankful for. I
can bathe the baby who had a diaper explosion beyond what wet wipes could handle and thank God for her and her amazing digestive tract.

The prayers of my children remind me to see the wonder of the baby through the pile of poop.

Whatever poop pile you are facing today know that there is a baby in there somewhere…..and they come from God. Give us the eyes and hearts of children Lord!

Love, Jenny

Quote:

A child kicks its legs rhythmically through excess, not absence, of life. Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and
free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, Do it again; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For
grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough... It is possible that God says every morning, Do it again, to the
sun; and every evening, Do it again, to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike: it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the
eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we. --G. K. Chesterton

Wishing you blessings each and every day.
